Pre-Primary School

Pre-Primary School Starting school is a special time for children and parents alike. However, parents and learners feel nervous about the changes ahead. At Excelsior Academic College, we aim to make the transition as smooth as possible. Learners and staff alike look forward to welcoming new children into our special school community. We offer school visits and trial days for children interested in enrolling in the school. The staff strive to provide an inspiring, stimulating and exciting environment where everyone feels valued, safe and well cared for. We want children to have fun and enjoy success in all aspects of their education. We encourage parents to play an active part in the children’s education. The children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Curriculum for England. This provides the with a broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for a good future. The following areas are covered in the curriculum: • Literacy – English, Afrikaans and isiZulu, • Mathematics, • Science, • Arts. • Gross and fine motor skills, • Communication and language, • Physical development, • Personal, social and emotional development. We aim to create a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which everyone to develop to their full potential. Excelsior Academic College is a happy, friendly school with dedicated staff team of educators and non-educators. Clothing Full school uniform is compulsory. Your child will take part in a range of messy and creative play activities both inside and outside the classroom. Children need to bring a set of spare clothes, including underwear to school. This must be kept in their school bag.

Primary School Our Primary learners are provided with a firm foundation of learning. Lessons are carefully structured to encourage curiosity, discovery, investigation, creative and imaginative responses. We encourage learners to become independent learners. Modern pedagogical approaches to teaching and learning, is used in the classroom. Our curriculum is based on the International Cambridge Primary Curriculum. The subjects that are taken are from Grade 1 - 7: • English • Afrikaans • isiZulu • Mathematics • Science • Life Skills • Computers • Geography • History • Art • Physical Education • Economic Management Sciences (Grade 7) We strive to create a safe, caring and supportive environment for children to learn. Our learners learn in an environment of mutual respect and cooperation. Our staff are committed to the learners ensuring that they are happy. The learners are assessed on a regular basis on how each child is progressing in their social as well as academic development.

Pupils leaving our school having gained their academic potential, gain good self-esteem, social skills and strong morals. Sixth form Our students learn to work more independently and prepare for life after school. We have small classes and close support from all their teachers. We offer a wide range of subjects and are taught by experienced and dedicated staff. Co-curricular Activities To ensure a well-rounded education, enrichment programmes are offered, from art club, nature club, STEM, drama, swimming, etc. Our international links allow for students to also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh. Our local community is important to us and we encourage our pupils in outreach programmes and support local children homes.
